[141:2]  1 tn Heb “may my prayer be established [like] incense before you, the uplifting of my hands [like] an evening offering.”

[3:1]  2 tn Grk “hour.”

[3:1]  3 sn Going up to the temple at the time for prayer. The earliest Christians, being of Jewish roots, were still participating in the institutions of Judaism at this point. Their faith in Christ did not make them non-Jewish in their practices.

[3:1]  4 tn Grk “at the ninth hour.” This is calculated from sunrise (Josephus, Ant. 14.4.3 [14.65]; Dan 9:21).

[10:3]  5 tn Grk “at about the ninth hour of the day.” This would be the time for afternoon prayer.

[10:3]  6 tn Or “the angel of God.” Linguistically, “angel of God” is the same in both testaments (and thus, he is either “an angel of God” or “the angel of God” in both testaments). [10:3]  7 tn The participles εἰσελθόντα (eiselqonta) and εἰπόντα (eiponta) are accusative, and thus best taken as adjectival participles modifying ἄγγελον (angelon): “an angel who came in and said.”

[10:30]  8 tn Grk “And Cornelius.” Because of the difference between Greek style, which often begins sentences or clauses with “and,” and English style, which generally does not, καί (kai) has not been translated here.

[10:30]  9 tn Grk “said.”

[10:30]  10 tn Grk “at the ninth hour.” Again, this is the hour of afternoon prayer.

[10:30]  11 tn Grk “and behold.” The interjection ἰδού (idou) is difficult at times to translate into English. Here it has been translated as “suddenly” to convey the force of Cornelius’ account of the angel’s appearance.
